METRO Re AG is the reinsurance company of METRO AG and provides reinsurance cover for companies within the METRO group. The company was founded on 5 July 2016 and is based in Düsseldorf, Germany.
METRO Re AG is a direct subsidiary of METRO Dienstleistungs-Holding GmbH and thus an indirect subsidiary of METRO AG.
The focus of its business activities lies in the reinsurance business, in particular in all-risk property and business interruption insurance for companies within the METRO group. The company’s objective is to stabilise and optimise the METRO group’s insurance and risk costs by assuming group risks, as well as to offset fluctuations in the insurance result.
METRO Re AG is authorised by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to conduct non-life reinsurance business and is subject to its supervision.
